Intercessor's Update

Intercessor's Update :: LONDON

"What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
"

-Joseph Scriven (The Song Book of The Salvation Army)

I want... I need...

Last night, after 'Knee Drill', Tasha, Ian and I were talking about our lives here in London. Ian told us about the time, back in Vancouver, when he discovered a needle in the bushes near the childrens' playground. Obviously, that's a messed up dicovery to make, but Ian shared how he used the opportunity to show his children what a needle looks like and that if they ever saw one, they should never touch it.
Since moving downtown three months ago, Tasha and I have made some similar discoveries and I have to admit, sometimes it's often painful to witness.
Anyone who has ever participated in a '614 Ministry' or an 'Eden Project' or any one of a number of urban community church plants, will relate to the balance between "wants and needs" in this kind of ministry. Let me elaborate!
Do I want to live so close to the methadone clinic? Not really. Do I want to watch a lady collecting needles in a hazardous waste container from the bushes next to our parking lot? Nope. Do I want to step on a used condom outside the door to my home? No. Do I want to be woken in the middle of the night by the police wanting to come into the apartment to talk to one of our neighbours? No. Do I want to tell Tasha that I found ants in my cereal, after she's already eaten a bowlful? No (and again, I'm sorry!) Do I want to watch a group of guys follow a half-naked man, who is having a bad drug-trip, as he staggers through our parking lot? No. Do I want my child to grow up around drugs, needles, condoms, crime, insect infestations and police visits? Not at all!
But this isn't a pity party! God provides for my every need, not my every want! And I'm not left disappointed.
Do I need to live in dowtown London? Yes, I think I do. Do I need to witness the challenges facing residents of this neighbourhood, as a neighbour, rather than as an outsider? I believe so. Do I need to fight against injustices in this neighbourhood. Yes, I do. Do I need to proclaim God's amazing power over sin and addiction. Amen, yes! Do I need to grow in my faith? Absolutely. And am I growing in faith? Yes!!!

Praise God, who meets all my needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus!

God is good(all the time)

God is good even when I am not!!God has granted me so many blessings in the last year I will not name them all.He has blessed me with great new Christian friends, health,He blessed me with an apartment like one I have never lived in before(it is very, very, very nice)The Lord blessed me with shelter when when I had none, man He is good.Even when I doubted, the Lord was there by my side,He would pick me up when I had fallen,He dusted me off when I slipped. The Lord stayed with me when I felt like walking away,He kept in step with me and turned me around and then led me down the right path(again)I don't know how I survived without the Lord in my life,so many years of abuse(mostly self inflicted)God is good!!(All the time)

Love Ya,God Bless Geoff

Release the Captives!

Release the Captives:
Sept.29-Oct.1 is The Salvation Army's International prayer and fasting weekend to combat Human Trafficing. If you don't know much about this global crisis it's time to become educated. Take time to read about The Army's engagement in this front and how you can become an active agent for establishing God's justice here on earth.
Go to stophumantraffic.com.
Be a participant this weekend. Gather your friends and instead of going to a movie or just hanging out take time to pray. There's a prayer guide on the website that will help you along.
For those of you in London you're invited to our place Sunday night to pray in this regards. 7 pm at the Gills. If you need address or directions just let me know: iegillingham at rogers dot com

P is for Patience

Man 'o man...
Josh and I have been looking a cars lately. Like to go out and invest in a car. Let me tell you... as I am sure most of you out there would know, it is not a fun process. I would think it would be a simple process if I had all the money in the world to spend: but we don't. So, we actually have to really look around and be as wise about it as we can.

We found a car, FINALLY, the other day, put some money down on it, and thought that the tough part was over. Um, not quite.
Now we are working out the details of insurance...geesh! They ask a whole lot don't they!

Yet, all along this whole process God has been so good to us. You see, we don't know too much about cars-- so God hooked us up with a really nice young couple, that we could trust. When we actually did come along some sketchy sales people, God guided us out of those situations, into a great one. Then for insurance, we called all over-- God hooked us up with some one who was really kind and found us a great deal. Praise the Lord.
And to think, all it takes is being patient.

Peace to you.

Intercessor's Update

Intercessor's Update :: LONDON

"Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer,
Thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness

Engage the waiting soul to bless;

And since he bids me seek his face,
Believe his word, and trust his grace,
I'll cast on him my every care
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer."

-W.W. Walford (The Song Book of The Salvation Army)

If you need Proof.

God has been good to us here in London.
I am realizing that I have been missing out on a few of the Lord's blessing's because I have been preoccupied with other things OR I have been stressed out about the very thing that God is providing.
I'm choosing to see what God is doing and how He is moving in our midst. Hopefully you will too.

Josh had an interview for a job, Elaine had an interview for a job, I've had a few things established for here and there (to help out that is), Ryan is preparing to be a Dad, Tasha is preparing for labour, Ian has been working this week...
See, God is good.

Peace to you.

These Boots weren't made for runnin'

Well things seem to be switching into a new gear.
God seemed to make know to a few people in our 614 community as well as outside of it, that this September things were going to switch over into a new season. Thank you Jesus!
It has been quite a hard truck through some of the ground breaking being done here...
I think of this picture of Ryan (this is true by the way), running the Santa Shuffle last winter in these big 'ol honkin' snow boots! That was sort of how it felt this past year, like we were running to get things started and yet we had some heavy things to deal with... Like we kept on saying "Okay, just one foot over the other and we will reach the finish line..."

Now it is September and it is time to kick off those honkin' boots and put on some lighter shoes-- Still work BUT a bit of a lighter season!
Praise the Lord.

Pray that there is a smooth transition for all of us!
Peace to you.
